As an Irish based operator of passenger transport services, Marathon Group have developed an Environmental and Ethics Policy to ensure that our Management Team, employees, and stakeholders are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations and promoting ethical business practices. This policy outlines our dedication to reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural resources, and supporting sustainable practices throughout our supply chain. By adhering to these principles, Marathon Group aims to create a positive impact on the environment and society while providing safe, reliable, and efficient transport services to our customers.

MARATHON GROUP WILL SPECIFICALLY

  • Consistently monitor and review both our positive and negative environmental impact in relation to all aspects of our operations.
  • Actively source suppliers, partners and clients who have a similar environmental and ethical message to ours. We work with partners whom work to a strong ethical framework and proactively aim to reduce their impact on the environment through new and innovative techniques.
  • Ensure environmental issues are at the forefront of our management processes and procedures.
  • Actively seek environmentally aware and sustainable organisations and projects to which we will donate a part of our annual profits.
  • Encourage all of our passengers through relevant and informative techniques to offset the harmful carbon emissions produced by their journey.
  • Actively promote and encourage a modal shift from car to the use of our coach services by the public, which are proven to be a more environmentally friendly form of transport.
  • Meet and exceed, where reasonable, the standards of environmental legislation and industry best practice.
  • Assess the impact of our business, its ethical ways of work and its environmental impact, at a national and global level.
  • Work with independent external organisations to facilitate a series of audits in order to monitor and review our own environmental and ethical performance. We will instigate as a result of these audits a process of continuous improvement.
  • Endeavor to provide adequate and relevant resources to the business to fulfill the ways of working as detailed in this document.
  • Commit ourselves to the training and supervision of our staff to include a focus on the environmental and ethical impact of our activities.
  • The company and all of its staff should be committed to promoting our key environmental and ethical messages to all of our suppliers, partners and customers.
  • Develop and manage a series of objectives to ensure we adopt a culture of continuous improvement in all of our operations and business activities.
  • Whenever practicable we will use recycled and recyclable materials and promote a culture of reducing the amount of waste produced by our activities.
  • We will adopt policies of equal opportunity and diversity when employing any new member of staff and promote this culture throughout our business.
  • When sourcing or considering partner brands we will review their environmental and ethical policies as part of any process to reach a decision on a working relationship.

MARATHON GROUP AND ROAD CONGESTION

  • A coach full of passengers takes up far less space on the road than the same number of people travelling by car.
  • Reduced road congestion allows average speeds to rise, which in turn allows engines to operate more efficiently with reduced fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
  • Bus lanes can generally be used by our coaches, thus reducing congestion even further.
  • We also maintain our coaches to the highest standards. Marathon Group’s maintenance standards are exceptionally high. This helps to ensure that our coaches are operating cleanly and efficiently at all times.
  • All our drivers are trained on the most efficient eco-friendly routes to take meaning our clients pay less whilst reducing their carbon footprint.
  • In addition we work closely with our Coach Sub-Contractors to ensure vehicle engineers are managing their waste effectively, meaning our contractors as well as of our office workers and drivers always recycle and use recycled materials where possible.
